Innovative Virtual Reality (VR)
Environments combined with
biofeedback are being built and
tested by numerous scientists
and physicians. They are well
known to be successful. In
these virtual environments,
patients can select from numerous
traditions in meditation.
Playful, expressive and interactive
objects for the elderly are being
created. These will help the
elderly to maintain movement.
Most of these objects may also
temporarily distract the elderly
from their pain. Software
is being developed that helps
patients keep track of the
numerous healthcare providers
they usually have seen over time.
Three-dimensional visualization
tools will help patients
describe and express where
their pain is located, along
with its character (such
as “stabbing, aching,” etc.).
This will help patients
communicate more effectively
with their physicians.
It is well known that patients
who visualize or express
their feelings about pain achieve
some relief from it.
