Pain is one of the most complex
experiences that all humans face.
It affects our bodies, minds and
culture. And although it has
affected humans from ancient
times to the present, pain is
notoriously impossible to share
with someone else.

Chronic pain is even more
intolerable. Right now, 31% of all
Canadians are affected by some
form of pain. Dr. Gromala, the
head of this project, herself has
dealt with chronic pain for twenty
four years. She is working on
building better computerized
aids to help patients through
meditation, biofeedback, and
innovative technologies such
as immersive virtual reality
(VR) and visualization therapy.
Her goal is to explore new
ways to use computer tech-
nologies which help people
improve their own health
outcomes through education,
experience and self-expression.
